Type Sinhala captions in Singlish, then download Unicode SRT
Published: 3 October 2026 · AutocaptionsLK, Sri Lanka
If a Sinhala caption contains a wrong word, you can type its correction in English letters. The website converts each Singlish word into Sinhala Unicode in the caption textbox; you can review the result before downloading subtitles.
How to correct a caption
- Open your generated captions in the caption editor. Generating the original transcript requires an activation key and uses your caption minutes; correcting an existing caption does not start another transcription.
- Make sure Singlish → සිංහල typing is switched on. Type a word in a caption textbox and press Space or Tab to convert it. The typing conversion runs in your browser.
- Check the Sinhala result, especially names and dialect words. Switch Singlish mode off when you need an English brand name. Press Apply cue after your edit.
- Download the Unicode SRT for CapCut, Premiere or YouTube. Editing the text does not burn subtitles into a video; you import the SRT into your video editor.
The editor appears after captions are generated. The standalone Singlish character map and live preview on the homepage can be tried without uploading a video or using paid minutes. Its preview does not change an SRT file.
Singlish spelling examples: ta and tha
Two similar-looking Latin spellings can produce different Sinhala letters. In this website's caption editor, ta converts to ට and tha converts to ත. The guide preview uses the same local converter as the editor for these examples. Other whole words can depend on the converter's vocabulary, so always check the resulting caption.
For common corrections, mama becomes මම, oya becomes ඔයා, and yanna becomes යන්න. If a word converts incorrectly, edit its Sinhala Unicode letters manually. Do not assume every spelling variation is recognised.
Why Unicode matters for subtitle files
SRT is a timed text file. Unicode Sinhala retains the actual Sinhala characters when you import it into a modern editor or upload it to YouTube. FM Abhaya is a legacy font encoding for older workflows; choose Unicode SRT unless your software specifically requires FM Abhaya. After import, preview the captions with a Sinhala-capable font and check the timing.
Common typing problems
- No conversion after Space? Confirm Singlish mode says it is ready, your cursor is in a caption textbox, and you typed Latin letters. Reload if the offline typing engine failed to load.
- English word changed unexpectedly? Turn Singlish mode off for that word, or manually restore the English spelling before applying the cue.
- Downloaded text is unchanged? Use Apply cue before downloading the updated SRT. Save your export before leaving the page; unsaved edits are not stored on the server.
