You do not need a desktop transcription program or a plugin. AutocaptionsLK takes one video or audio file, recognises the Sinhala speech, cleans up the text and gives you subtitle files you can drop into the editor you already use.

2. Upload one file — MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM or AVI video, or MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG audio, up to 150 MB and 15 minutes.

• Social apps: many mobile editors only accept text or their own caption tools, so check the app before assuming an SRT import exists.

Unicode or FM Abhaya — which Sinhala subtitle file do I need?

Use Unicode for anything modern: CapCut, Adobe Premiere, YouTube, VLC, subtitle editors and web players. Use FM Abhaya only for older Sinhala subtitle software that expects that legacy font — FM Abhaya text looks like Latin letters unless the font itself is installed, which is expected behaviour, not a broken file.

Accuracy: what to expect from automatic Sinhala captions

Automatic speech recognition is a starting point. Clear, single-speaker audio produces usable captions; heavy background music, several speakers talking over each other, poor phone audio or strong dialect reduce quality. Always review the draft and correct proper nouns, numbers and punctuation before publishing.

Nothing is perfect: expect to spend a few minutes editing the text. That editing time is still far shorter than typing every line yourself.

Upload limits and how minutes are counted

• One file at a time, up to 150 MB and 15 minutes per file.
• Billing uses decoded audio duration rounded up to the whole second, per successful file — not the time you spend on the website.
• Failed jobs return their reserved credit automatically.
• Activation keys have no calendar expiry; availability depends on the service.
• You can buy several packages and use the minutes across different videos.

A longer package does not raise the 15-minute per-file upload limit. Split a long recording into parts if it exceeds the limit.

Sinhala caption packages

Prepaid packages in Sri Lankan rupees. Payment is confirmed on WhatsApp and a private activation key is issued for the minutes you bought.
